Bihar secures 42-run victory over Assam in Cooch Behar Trophy

Patna: Bihar clinched victory over Assam by 42 runs in the Cooch Behar Trophy Under-19 Men’s Cricket Tournament on November 6, wrapping up the match on the third day at Barpeta DSA Ground. Despite a shaky start, Bihar’s resilience in the second innings helped secure the win.

Bihar initially struggled, being bowled out for just 70 runs after electing to bat. Assam capitalised, posting 128 runs in their first innings and gaining a 58-run lead. In their second innings, Bihar’s Prithvi Raj delivered a stellar performance, scoring an unbeaten 156. This knock propelled Bihar to 265 runs, setting Assam a target of 208.

On the third day, Bihar resumed play at 235-8 and were eventually bowled out for 265, thanks largely to Prithvi’s tenacious innings and a crucial ninth-wicket stand of 61 runs between Prithvi and Suman Kumar. Prithvi’s 156 stood out as the defining contribution in an otherwise low-scoring match, with only Aditya Sinha (29) reaching double figures among the other batters.

Assam’s chase faltered early, with half their team dismissed for 70 runs. Dyutimoy Nath (49) and Prabal Kalita (44) fought back, but Assam ultimately fell short, bowled out for 164. Bihar’s Satyam Kumar led the bowling effort, taking five wickets, while Aditya Raj and Suman Kumar claimed three and two wickets, respectively.

Bihar now prepares to face Kerala in their next match, scheduled for November 13 in Trivandrum.
