Patna: A replica of the Lord Jagannath Temple, standing approximately 121 feet tall and 110 feet wide, is being constructed at Etwarpur in Patna for this year’s Durga Puja celebrations. Organisers said the pandal would combine temple-inspired architecture, decorative lighting and 3D mapping.
The project has an estimated budget of Rs 85 lakh, with around 80 workers engaged in construction, idol-making and decoration. Organisers said approximately 80% of the work had been completed, with finishing work under way.
10,000 Bamboo Poles Used In Construction
The pandal’s framework is being built using around 10,000 bamboo poles. Workers are also completing the fabric coverings, plywood structures and decorative elements.
The Durga idol, which will stand approximately 16 feet tall, is being decorated by artisans from Bengal. A specially designed backdrop is also being prepared to complement the idol and the overall pandal structure.
Preparations Begin Months In Advance
According to Munil Yadav, the president of the organising committee, preparations begin three to four months before the festival, with the design and layout planned well in advance.
The pandal’s framework has been under construction for the past two months, he said. Workers are now concentrating on the finishing touches ahead of the celebrations.
3D Mapping Show Planned As Key Attraction
A 3D mapping show is among the main attractions planned for this year. The technology will project colours, patterns and lighting effects onto the pandal, creating changing visual displays across the temple replica and its surroundings.
Organisers claim the show will be a first-of-its-kind attraction in Bihar. The display is intended to combine traditional Durga Puja celebrations with technology-based visual effects.
Security And Traffic Arrangements Planned
Etwarpur attracts large numbers of devotees during the annual celebrations. Organisers are giving attention to security and traffic management in anticipation of the crowds.
The celebrations will also include a chariot procession during the immersion ceremony. According to the organisers, the idol of Lord Jagannath will be placed on a chariot and taken to Punpun for immersion.
The planned procession will extend the celebrations beyond the main worship rituals, adding another event to the programme at Etwarpur.
