Patna : Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Saturday transferred Rs 1,237.48 crore to the bank accounts of 1,08,36,000 social security pension beneficiaries for September 2026 through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
Each beneficiary received Rs 1,100, with the transfer covering elderly people, persons with disabilities, widows and other eligible beneficiaries under the state’s social security pension schemes.
The transfer took place at the Sankalp auditorium at the Chief Minister’s official residence in Patna. Beneficiaries, district magistrates and other officials from across Bihar joined the programme through video conferencing.
93,835 New Beneficiaries Added In September
According to the state government, 93,835 new beneficiaries were added to the social security pension schemes in September 2026.
Choudhary said the government was committed to providing social security to elderly people, persons with disabilities, widows and economically vulnerable sections of society.
He also said the pension amount had been increased from Rs 400 to Rs 1,100 per month under the previous government led by Nitish Kumar.
The chief minister said the state government had decided to ensure that pension payments are transferred to beneficiaries’ accounts on the 10th of every month.

District Magistrates Asked To Identify Eligible Beneficiaries
The chief minister directed all district magistrates to ensure that no eligible person is left out of the social security pension schemes.
He also urged public representatives to visit villages in their constituencies and help identify people who qualify for the pension but are not receiving the benefit.
Choudhary said special drives should be conducted on Panchayat Development Day to identify eligible beneficiaries. Officials were also asked to check pension eligibility during health surveys.
He stressed that pension payments should be made in a timely and transparent manner, ensuring that every eligible citizen receives the benefit with dignity.
Government Reiterates Commitment To Social Security
Addressing the programme, Choudhary said the government was committed to protecting the dignity and social security of poor people, senior citizens, persons with disabilities, widows and other disadvantaged groups.
He called for coordinated efforts to fulfil Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a developed India and former chief minister Nitish Kumar’s vision of a prosperous Bihar.
The government said the increase in the monthly pension from Rs 400 to Rs 1,100 had brought changes to the lives of beneficiaries and reiterated its commitment to supporting vulnerable households.
Senior Officials Attend Transfer Programme
Social Welfare Department Secretary Vinod Singh Gunjiyal welcomed the chief minister by presenting him with a green sapling and a memento.
Deputy Chief Minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav, Social Welfare Minister Dr Shweta Gupta, Chief Secretary Pratyaya Amrit, Chief Minister’s secretaries Lokesh Kumar Singh and Sanjay Kumar Singh, and senior officials attended the programme.
District magistrates, beneficiaries and other dignitaries participated through video conferencing.
The state government said it would continue monitoring pension coverage and payment schedules to ensure that eligible residents receive social security assistance without unnecessary delays.
