Patna: Security was tightened across Patna on Saturday ahead of a proposed protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and a halt to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
The administration deployed additional police personnel at key intersections and sensitive locations, anticipating possible demonstrations and marches. Security arrangements remained in place from morning until evening.
Security Personnel Deployed At Key Locations
Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel were stationed at Gandhi Maidan, while Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Bihar Police personnel were deployed at JP Golambar.
Iron barricades were installed at Dakbungla Crossing to regulate movement and maintain security. Station House Officers from around 11 police stations, along with their teams, were assigned to Gandhi Maidan, Dakbungla Crossing and nearby areas.
Three Student Leaders Detained Near Patna College
The All India Democratic Students’ Organisation (AIDSO) staged a protest near Patna College against the SIR exercise. Police detained three leaders of the organisation before the demonstration.
The student leaders alleged that they had been detained despite conducting their protest peacefully and democratically. All three were subsequently released after executing personal bonds.
Disha Members Protest Against SIR
Meanwhile, members of the student organisation Disha gathered at Bhikhna Pahari Crossing with posters and banners. They raised slogans against the SIR exercise, the Election Commission and the central government.
The protesters also expressed their opposition to the police action during the demonstration in Delhi.
The security deployment came amid protests against the revision of electoral rolls and demands for the Election Commission to halt the exercise.
