Patna : Passengers travelling between Patna and Jaynagar in Madhubani district will pay a lower fare after Indian Railways temporarily replaced the Namo Bharat Rapid Rail with a MEMU train while the original train’s coaches undergo maintenance.
The railway has restored services using a 12-coach MEMU train, charging passengers Rs 105 for the journey between Jaynagar and Patna instead of the earlier Namo Bharat fare of Rs 345.
According to a report published by Dainik Jagran on October 12, the replacement service began on Monday. The existing departure and arrival timings have been retained.
Patna–Jaynagar Route Gets Temporary MEMU Service
The coaches of the Namo Bharat Rapid Rail operating between Jaynagar and Patna have been sent for maintenance. To maintain passenger services during this period, the railway has arranged a MEMU train in its place.
The affected services are train numbers 94803 and 94804, which operate between Jaynagar and Patna.
The temporary arrangement allows passengers to continue travelling on the route without waiting for the original train to return from maintenance.
Ticket Fare Falls From Rs 345 To Rs 105
The change in train type has also reduced the fare substantially.
Passengers previously paid Rs 345 to travel from Jaynagar to Patna on the Namo Bharat Rapid Rail. With the MEMU service, the fare has been reduced to Rs 105, in line with the reported Mail and Express fare.
| Journey detail | Fare |
| Earlier Namo Bharat fare | Rs 345 |
| Temporary MEMU fare | Rs 105 |
| Reduction per journey | Rs 240 |
The revised fare offers a lower-cost travel option, particularly for passengers who regularly commute between north Bihar and the state capital.
Existing Timetable Remains Unchanged
Despite the change in train, the railway has retained the existing schedule for the route.
The train departs from Jaynagar at 5 am and is scheduled to reach Patna at 10.40 am.
For the return journey, it leaves Patna at 5.55 pm and reaches Jaynagar at approximately 11.45 pm.
Passengers should check the latest railway announcements before travelling, as the temporary arrangement may change once maintenance work is completed.
Lower Fares For Daily Passengers
The replacement is expected to reduce travel expenses for daily commuters and other passengers using the Jaynagar–Patna route.
The Namo Bharat Rapid Rail was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during an event in Jhanjharpur in April 2025. Its temporary replacement with a MEMU service is intended to keep the route operational while the original train undergoes maintenance.
The railway has not specified in the supplied report when the Namo Bharat train will return to service. Until then, passengers can use the MEMU train at the reported lower fare while following the existing timetable.
