Ara/Patna: A retired Customs Department official was shot dead by unidentified assailants near Jain College in Ara, Bhojpur district, on Thursday morning while he was out for his regular morning walk.

The deceased, Ramkumar Singh, was reportedly fired upon six to seven times. The assailants fled immediately after the attack, triggering panic in the area.

According to reports, Singh would regularly go for morning walks, usually towards Ramna Maidan. He was targeted near Jain College, where the gunshots drew the attention of people in the vicinity. A crowd subsequently gathered at the scene.

The incident, which occurred in a busy area during daylight, has raised concerns among local residents about security arrangements.

Land Dispute Suspected As Possible Motive

Preliminary reports have suggested that a land dispute could be behind the killing. However, the motive has not been officially confirmed, and the identities of the assailants remain unknown.

Police are investigating the case to establish the circumstances surrounding the murder and identify those responsible.

Former Rotary Club Secretary

Singh was a retired Customs Department official and had previously served as secretary of the Rotary Club. He was reportedly still associated with the organisation and was also said to be connected with a Kshatriya organisation.

His killing has triggered grief and anger among acquaintances and local residents.

Further details about the motive and the sequence of events are expected to emerge as the police investigation progresses.
