Patna : Bihar Transport Department  is preparing to introduce more than 150 daily inter-state bus services from December 2026, aiming to improve connectivity between the state and major cities in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh and Chandigarh.

The proposed services will operate under the public-private partnership (PPP) model and are expected to connect almost all districts of Bihar with destinations outside the state. The plan is intended to provide regular travel options beyond the festive season.

According to Transport Minister Damodar Rawat, the proposed inter-state bus services will make travel more convenient for passengers. The application process for operators is expected to begin soon.

The routes and fares are yet to be finalised. The fares announced so far are indicative and may change depending on the route and other conditions.

Delhi To Bihar Buses: Proposed Fare Up To Rs 2,000

Buses are proposed to operate from three major terminals in Delhi: Kashmere Gate, Anand Vihar and Sarai Kale Khan.

The services are expected to travel through routes via Ghaziabad, Bareilly, Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Kushinagar or Ayodhya before entering Bihar. Proposed destinations include Gopalganj, Chhapra, Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga, Hajipur and Patna.

The proposed fare for buses from Delhi to Bihar ranges from Rs 900 to Rs 2,000, depending on the route and applicable conditions.

Uttar Pradesh To Get Direct Bus Connections With Bihar

Direct bus services are planned from Lucknow, Kanpur, Varanasi, Gorakhpur and Agra in Uttar Pradesh to several destinations in Bihar.

The proposed routes will connect passengers with cities and towns including Buxar, Ara, Mohania, Sasaram and Patna.

The indicative fare for services from Lucknow and Kanpur is expected to range between Rs 700 and Rs 1,500. Final fares will be announced after the routes and operating conditions are confirmed.

Haryana Buses To Connect Muzaffarpur, Purnia And Bhagalpur

The proposed network will also cover major cities in Haryana, including Gurugram, Faridabad, Panipat, Sonipat and Ambala.

These buses are expected to travel through Delhi and Uttar Pradesh to reach destinations such as Muzaffarpur, Begusarai, Purnia and Bhagalpur.

The proposed fare from Haryana to Bihar is approximately Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,200.

Buses From West Bengal, Chhattisgarh And Chandigarh

Bihar is also planning bus services from Kolkata and Siliguri in West Bengal. The proposed fares on these routes range from Rs 800 to Rs 1,800.

Services from Raipur and other cities in Chhattisgarh are also under consideration, with fares expected to fall between Rs 1,200 and Rs 2,200.

For buses from Chandigarh to Bihar, the proposed fare ranges from Rs 1,200 to Rs 2,500.

Proposed Inter-State Bus Fares To Bihar

Starting point Proposed fare
Delhi Rs 900–2,000
Uttar Pradesh (Lucknow and Kanpur) Rs 700–1,500
Haryana Rs 1,000–2,200
West Bengal Rs 800–1,800
Chhattisgarh Rs 1,200–2,200
Chandigarh Rs 1,200–2,500

Service Planned Beyond The Festive Season

The proposed network is intended to provide passengers with regular inter-state travel options throughout the year, rather than services limited to periods of high festive demand.

By connecting major cities outside Bihar with destinations such as Patna, Gaya, Muzaffarpur, Vaishali, Sasaram and Purnia, the plan aims to make travel more accessible for people returning home, visiting family or travelling for work and other purposes.

  • The Bihar Excise Department seized 30,200 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup worth approximately ₹80 lakh at the Mohania Integrated Checkpost in Kaimur district.

The consignment was allegedly being transported from Uttar Pradesh to West Bengal in a DCM truck, with the bottles concealed beneath sacks of flattened rice. The department arrested the driver, Premnarayan Vishwakarma, and co-driver Govind Vishwakarma, both residents of Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh.

Officials are questioning the accused and investigating the suspected smuggling network.
