Patna : Bihar’s first modern highway motel is being developed along National Highway 27 (NH-27) in Supaul district, aiming to provide convenient and affordable rest facilities for travellers on the Patna–Purnia route.
The mid-way service plaza is coming up at Asanpur Kupaha in Kishanpur block, near the Kosi Mahasetu, under the supervision of the Bihar State Tourism Development Corporation (BSTDC). The project has an estimated cost of Rs 24.05 crore and is scheduled for completion by March 2027.
The facility is designed to give long-distance travellers a place to eat, freshen up and rest without having to depend exclusively on private hotels or roadside eateries.
Five Facilities Planned For Highway Travellers
The motel project and its proposed expansion include five key facilities for people travelling along NH-27.
- Affordable Food Services
Travellers will be able to access food at affordable, regulated rates, with an emphasis on quality standards. The facility is intended to provide an alternative to private highway hotels and roadside eateries.
- Air-Conditioned Rooms
Modern, air-conditioned rooms are planned for passengers who need to rest for a few hours or stay overnight. The rooms are expected to be available at comparatively low charges.
- Clean Toilet Facilities
Clean toilets are among the planned amenities, addressing a basic requirement for passengers making long road journeys between Patna and Purnia.
- Green Park And Activity Area
The second phase is expected to include a green park and an activity area. These additions are intended to make the service plaza more suitable for families and travellers taking longer breaks.
- Children’s Gaming Zone And EV Charging
Plans for the second phase also include a gaming zone for children and an electric vehicle (EV) charging station. The charging facility is intended to support travellers using electric vehicles.
The green park, gaming zone, activity area and EV charging station are part of the proposed expansion rather than facilities confirmed as operational in the first phase.
Supaul DM Reviews Construction Progress
Supaul District Magistrate Sawan Kumar inspected the construction site and reviewed the progress of the project. He sought details of the work schedule from Vikas Kumar, executive engineer of the tourism corporation.
The district magistrate directed officials to ensure that construction is completed by March 2027.
He noted that NH-27 carries substantial traffic between Patna and Purnia and said the motel would provide travellers with a modern stopping point. The project is also expected to create local employment opportunities and support tourism-related activities.
Four More Districts In Expansion Plan
The state is also considering similar highway motels in four other districts, according to the project details. The Supaul facility is the first modern highway motel being developed under this initiative.
If the proposed expansion moves forward, additional facilities along national highways could give travellers more options for food, accommodation and rest across Bihar.
For now, the immediate priority is to complete the Rs 24.05 crore project in Supaul by March 2027 and prepare the service plaza to serve passengers travelling along the Patna–Purnia corridor.
