Patna : Patna District Magistrate Kundan Kumar has directed officials to ensure that all street lights are functional and damaged roads are repaired before Diwali. To monitor progress and address complaints, the district administration has formed a monitoring group and a District Quick Response Team (QRT).
The directions were issued during a meeting with officials on Thursday after concerns were raised over non-functional street lights and damaged roads in the capital. The DM instructed the concerned departments to complete the work on a priority basis and operate in mission mode ahead of the festival.
Monitoring Group And QRT To Track Progress
The district-level monitoring group and the QRT will oversee repair work, monitor progress and help ensure accountability. Officials have been directed to identify pending work and address complaints without delay.
The Road Construction Department, Bihar State Road Development Corporation, Patna Municipal Corporation, municipal councils and panchayats have been instructed to conduct field inspections and submit lists of faulty street lights to the QRT.
The administration has also directed officials to set daily targets for repairing or replacing bulbs, LED lights and batteries, as well as resolving technical faults. The aim is to ensure that all street lights are operational before Diwali.
Road Repairs Completed At 747 Sites
The district administration has identified damaged roads at 1,220 locations through public complaints and field surveys. Repair work has been completed at 747 sites, with more than 159 km of roads repaired so far.
The DM reviewed the progress and expressed dissatisfaction with the pace of road repairs in rural areas. The Rural Works Department’s executive engineer cited the extensive road network as a challenge.
Kundan Kumar directed the department to speed up repairs on roads damaged by rain and floods, while ensuring that the work meets prescribed quality standards.
Officials Asked To Meet Deadline
The district administration has instructed the concerned departments to coordinate closely and ensure that pending street light and road repair work is completed within the stipulated timeline.
The monitoring group and QRT are expected to help track implementation, respond to complaints and identify delays. The administration has emphasised timely action so that residents can access functional street lighting and better road conditions during the Diwali festivities.
