Bhagalpur: Women across Bhagalpur district are celebrating Karwa Chauth on Thursday, October 29, observing a day-long fast and praying for their husbands’ longevity, good health and a happy married life.
The festival has brought a festive atmosphere to homes in urban and rural areas, with women preparing for rituals and shopping for traditional attire, jewellery and puja essentials. The fast is traditionally observed by married Hindu women, who worship Karwa Mata and seek blessings from Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.
Karwa Chauth Puja Muhurat From 5:04 PM to 6:20 PM
According to Pandit Anand Jha, a priest at Tilkamanjhi Mahavir Temple, the most auspicious time for Karwa Chauth puja in Bhagalpur, based on the local panchang, is from approximately 5:04 pm to 6:20 pm.
He noted that timings may vary slightly across panchangs because of differences in astronomical calculations. The moon is expected to be visible at around 7:40 pm in Bhagalpur.
Women to Perform Puja and Listen to the Karwa Chauth Katha
As part of the traditional observance, women perform the puja during the evening, offering incense, lamps, fruits, flowers, roli, akshat (rice grains) and other offerings to Karwa Mata.
The rituals also include listening to the Karwa Chauth katha and preparing an offering of water and milk for the moon. After moonrise, women traditionally view the moon through a sieve, look at their husbands and offer arghya.
The fast is generally concluded after the moon ritual, when women take their first sip of water and eat something, often with their husbands’ assistance.
Markets See Rush for Puja Items and Festive Accessories
The festival has also brought increased activity to local markets, where women have been purchasing puja materials and traditional adornments ahead of the evening rituals.
The celebrations reflect the festival’s religious and cultural significance, with families preparing for the customary prayers and moonrise ceremony.
