Patna: AIIMS Patna has begun implementing the Prime Minister Road Accident Victims’ Hospitalisation and Assured Treatment (PM-RAHAT) Scheme to provide eligible road accident victims with cashless emergency medical care. The initiative, which commenced on Thursday, October 29, aims to ensure that financial constraints do not prevent accident victims from receiving timely treatment.
Under the scheme, eligible road accident victims can avail themselves of cashless treatment worth up to Rs 1.5 lakh per person for a maximum of seven days from the date of the accident. The benefits are subject to prescribed eligibility criteria and operational guidelines.
The scheme is intended to facilitate prompt medical intervention, stabilisation and appropriate treatment during the critical period following a road accident.
Trauma and Emergency Department to Facilitate Treatment
At AIIMS Patna, the Trauma and Emergency Department will play a key role in implementing the scheme and facilitating treatment for eligible beneficiaries. The process will involve coordination between clinical departments, hospital administration and designated authorities to ensure compliance with the prescribed procedures.
Prof. (Brig.) Dr Raju Agarwal, Executive Director and CEO of AIIMS Patna, emphasised the importance of timely access to emergency healthcare and the institute’s commitment to patient-centred medical services.
The implementation is expected to improve access to emergency treatment for road accident victims from Bihar and neighbouring regions.
Hospital Administration to Oversee Implementation
Prof. Dr Prashant Kumar Singh, Medical Superintendent of AIIMS Patna, highlighted the importance of coordinated hospital services and appropriate administrative arrangements for effective implementation. The hospital will facilitate the prescribed procedures for eligible patients in accordance with the applicable guidelines.
