Patna : The Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) has issued a Rs 200 crore municipal bond, becoming the first urban local body in Bihar to raise funds through this route. The proceeds will be used to finance 18 development projects at 15 locations across the state capital.
The planned projects include 12 vending zones, two marriage halls, a parking facility, a commercial complex, a hotel and a community building. The corporation expects the investments to expand civic amenities, improve urban infrastructure and create opportunities to generate additional revenue.
According to the report, PMC had already received an AA credit rating for the bond issue.
Rs 200 Crore Bond To Fund 18 Development Projects
The Rs 200 crore raised through the municipal bond will support development work at 15 identified locations across Patna.
The construction of 12 vending zones and two marriage halls forms a major part of the proposed investment. Other projects include a parking facility, a commercial complex, a hotel and a community building.
The planned infrastructure is intended to provide residents with improved public facilities while creating organised spaces for commercial activities and community events.
The vending zones are expected to provide designated spaces for street vendors, helping organise roadside businesses and giving vendors more structured locations to operate.
Land Identified At 15 Locations Across Patna
PMC has identified land at 15 locations for the proposed development projects. According to the report, 10 locations are on land owned by the municipal corporation.
Four locations have been identified on land belonging to the Road Construction Department, while one site belongs to the Bihar State Housing Board.
The corporation has prepared a development plan for the identified sites. Projects proposed on land owned by other government agencies will require coordination with the respective authorities.
The availability of identified sites is an important step towards implementing the projects, although their completion will depend on approvals, construction schedules and other implementation requirements.
Vending Zones And Marriage Halls Among Key Projects
The proposed vending zones are expected to provide designated commercial spaces for street vendors, potentially helping improve the organisation of roadside markets.
The two marriage halls and the community building will add facilities for social functions and public gatherings. Meanwhile, the planned parking facility is intended to support parking management, while the commercial complex and hotel form part of the corporation’s broader development plan.
These facilities are expected to expand the range of public and commercial amenities available in Patna.
The corporation also anticipates that some of the projects could contribute to its revenue through their future operation and management. The extent of any additional income will depend on how the facilities are developed and operated.
Mayor And Municipal Commissioner Join NSE Bond Listing Programme
Mayor Sita Sahu, Municipal Commissioner Yashpal Meena and other PMC officials participated online in the bond listing programme organised by the National Stock Exchange (NSE).
The listing marked an important step in the corporation’s effort to use municipal bonds to finance urban development.
Municipal bonds allow eligible urban local bodies to raise money from investors for infrastructure and civic projects, subject to applicable regulatory requirements. The funds are then deployed according to the stated purpose of the issue and the relevant financing arrangements.
For PMC, the Rs 200 crore issue is intended to provide financial support for its planned projects across the city.
Municipal Bond To Support Patna’s Urban Development
The bond issue provides PMC with a financing route for projects beyond its regular budgetary resources. It also places the corporation among urban local bodies using capital-market instruments to support civic infrastructure.
The planned investments cover commercial facilities, public amenities and spaces for street vendors, reflecting an effort to address several urban development needs through a single funding programme.
However, the benefits will depend on the timely execution of the projects, effective financial management and the long-term maintenance of the facilities.
With the Rs 200 crore municipal bond issued, the next stage will involve implementing the 18 projects across the 15 identified locations and ensuring that the proposed facilities deliver practical benefits to residents and businesses in Patna.
