Patna: AIIMS Patna has received major funding support to set up a MedTech Incubation Centre, a move that is expected to change the future of medical innovation in eastern India. The announcement was made in New Delhi on 16 February 2026 and is being seen as a big step towards bringing technology, research and healthcare together on one platform. The new centre will help doctors, researchers and young entrepreneurs develop medical devices and digital health solutions that can directly improve patient care.
The funding has been provided by BlockChain for Impact, a non-profit organisation that supports high-impact projects across India. The Letter of Intent was handed over in the presence of senior officials from the Government of India’s science and innovation departments and representatives from IIT Delhi, showing strong national support for the project. This recognition highlights the growing importance of AIIMS Patna as a leader in healthcare research and innovation.
The Letter of Intent was received by Dr Sanjay Pandey, Dean of Research at AIIMS Patna, along with Dr Sudeep Kumar from the Department of Orthopaedics and Dr Mousumi Saha, who is the chief executive of the AIIMS Patna Incubation and Innovation Council. Dr Sudeep Kumar will lead the project as the principal investigator, while Dr Mousumi Saha will head the MedTech Incubation Centre. She will guide its vision, daily operations and partnerships with industry, universities and investors.
The main goal of the new centre is to support medical device innovation, early-stage start-ups and research that can be translated into real healthcare solutions. It will provide shared laboratories, expert mentorship, regulatory guidance and business support to young innovators. By bringing together doctors, engineers and entrepreneurs, the centre will help close the gap between clinical problems and technological answers, making healthcare more accessible and affordable.
This step also reflects AIIMS Patna’s long-term vision to build a strong ecosystem for innovation and entrepreneurship in healthcare. Officials believe the MedTech Incubation Centre will not only create new opportunities for start-ups but will also strengthen patient care by promoting safe, effective and low-cost technologies. With this initiative, AIIMS Patna is positioning itself as a key hub for MedTech innovation in India’s eastern region.
