Khagaria/ Patna: A 27-year-old Indian Air Force jawan, Kunal Kumar, died after falling from a moving train while returning home from duty on Thursday. The incident occurred at Gauchari railway station in Bihar’s Khagaria district, where train number 15653 Guwahati–Jammutvi Amarnath Express was passing without a scheduled halt.

According to police reports, Kumar was returning to his village, Khatha Nagar Parishad, after taking leave from his posting at the Bagdogra Air Force station. He had recently participated in Operation Sindoor, which was launched amid tensions between India and Pakistan. Kumar had only just married on May 7 and returned to duty on May 11 after his leave was cancelled.

The GRP (Government Railway Police) station in-charge, Dhananjay Kumar, confirmed that Kumar fell while attempting to disembark as the train slowed down at Gauchari, a non-stoppage station for the express train. He died on the spot.

His father, Ramvilas Sah, said the family had celebrated Kumar’s marriage with great joy. “He was our only son. He had left for duty right after the wedding. We were waiting for him to come home, and now he has returned like this,” he said in tears.

The shocking news left Kumar’s wife, Kavita Kumari, unconscious. She fainted upon hearing about her husband’s death. The tragedy has thrown the entire village into mourning, with residents gathering at the family home to offer condolences.

Police have taken custody of the body and sent it for postmortem at Sadar Hospital. An investigation into the exact circumstances of the fall is underway.
