Patna: In a major boost to Bihar’s dairy and food processing sector, M/s Kaira District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union Ltd. (Amul Dairy) has received approval to establish a modern dairy processing facility in Patna with an investment of approximately Rs 200 crore.
The project was approved during a meeting of the Project Clearance Committee (PCC) of the Bihar Industrial Area Development Authority (BIADA), chaired by Kundan Kumar, Secretary of the Industries Department and Managing Director of BIADA and the Infrastructure Development Authority (IDA).
The committee approved proposals for the allotment of industrial land and plug-and-play sheds to eligible applicants across various industrial areas in the state. Among the approved projects was Amul’s proposal to establish a dairy manufacturing and processing unit at the Industrial Area (IA) in Fatuha, Patna.
13-Acre Facility Planned
According to officials, the proposed facility will be developed on 13 acres of land and will process milk along with a range of fresh dairy products.
The project is expected to significantly enhance Bihar’s dairy processing capacity while strengthening links between milk producers and organised markets.
Officials said the facility would create around 200 direct and indirect employment opportunities and contribute to the expansion of the state’s dairy value chain.
The project is also expected to provide improved market access for local milk producers and dairy farmers, potentially increasing incomes in rural areas where dairy farming remains an important source of livelihood.
Focus On Rural Economy
Industries Minister Shreyasi Singh said the Bihar government remains committed to promoting agriculture- and livestock-based industries across the state.
She said investments in the dairy sector would strengthen the rural economy, improve farmers’ incomes and contribute to the growth of the food processing industry.
“The government is continuously working towards establishing Bihar as a leading destination for agriculture and food processing-based industries,” Singh said.
Push For Industrial Growth
Kundan Kumar said Bihar is seeking to attract investment by providing modern infrastructure, transparent procedures and investor-friendly policies.
He added that investments in sectors such as dairy and food processing are expected to accelerate industrial growth while creating employment and skill-development opportunities for local youth.
The approval for the Amul facility comes as Bihar continues efforts to expand its food processing ecosystem and attract private and cooperative-sector investment in value-added agricultural industries.
Officials said the project is expected to play a significant role in strengthening the state’s dairy sector by improving processing infrastructure and creating new opportunities across the supply chain.
