Ancient temple and Shivling unearthed in Patna City attract hundreds of devotees daily
Patna: An ancient temple and Shivling recently uncovered in Narayan Babu’s Lane in Patna City have become a focal point of faith and devotion, with over 200 people visiting daily to offer prayers and seek blessings. The discovery, believed to date back more than 500 years, has drawn widespread attention, with worship and anointment rituals continuing from morning until late evening.
The site has also sparked curiosity due to its architectural features, including four intricately carved pillars and a dome above the Shivling. Residents reported that the structure, which emerged after part of the ground in Kirat Math collapsed, was initially hidden under layers of soil. Upon further excavation, an ancient temple basement with a remarkably clean and shiny surface was revealed.
Local residents, including elders, recall hearing stories about the Shivling’s existence, which has now come to light. “We had always heard about this Shivling, and now people can finally witness it,” said Sonpati Devi, a long-time resident.
The discovery has prompted an investigation by the Archaeological Directorate, as devotees eagerly await more insights into the temple’s history. Meanwhile, a group of young volunteers and devotees has taken charge of cleaning and maintaining the site, ensuring that the ancient structure remains accessible to visitors. As news of the temple spreads, worshippers from neighboring areas continue to arrive.
