Aurangabad: A 16-year-old student was beaten to death in Bihar’s Aurangabad district in what police suspect to be a case of honour killing. The incident took place on the night of June 25 in Jaanpur village under Barun police station. The victim, Himanshu Kumar, a Class 10 student and the only son of Manoj Paswan, was allegedly murdered by the family of a girl he was reportedly in a relationship with.

According to the police, Himanshu had gone to meet the girl at her house on her birthday after she invited him over. At the time, the girl’s parents were not home. However, her brothers allegedly saw them together from the rooftop and informed their father. They reportedly dragged Himanshu into the house and beat him to death with sticks and sharp weapons.

Himanshu’s family said the girl later arrived at their home crying and informed them that Himanshu was being assaulted. When they rushed to the scene, he was already dead. His body was later recovered from the house of one of the accused, Mahendra Yadav.

Police have arrested Mahendra Yadav, and further investigation is underway. An application has been filed by the victim’s father naming several accused: Mahendra Yadav, Sadhu Yadav alias Birendra Yadav, Suman Kumar, Nitish Kumar, and Ramkewal Yadav. The father claimed that his son was forcibly dragged from the street and assaulted with casteist slurs when they tried to intervene.

Tensions have gripped the village following the murder. Villagers blocked the Barun–Daudnagar road, demanding the arrest of all the accused. A forensic team from Gayaji and additional police forces have been deployed to maintain law and order. Axes and sticks were recovered from the site.

SDPO Sanjay Kumar Pandey confirmed the recovery of the body and the arrest of one accused. “Preliminary investigation suggests the boy was in a relationship with the girl. It is suspected they were seen in a compromising situation, which led to the murder. All accused will be arrested,” he said.

Himanshu’s postmortem was conducted at Sadar Hospital on June 26. His death has intensified calls for justice in the region amid rising concerns about honour-based violence.
