Patna: The Central Government has approved the issuance of a commemorative postage stamp in honour of Baba Chauharmal, a revered folk hero from Bihar, following a proposal submitted by Union Minister and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) president Chirag Paswan.
According to Chirag Paswan, the proposal has been accepted by the Ministry of Communications, and the commemorative stamp will be released at a formal ceremony to be organised by the Centre.
Proposal Accepted by the Centre
Chirag Paswan announced the decision through a post on X, formerly Twitter, stating that he had written to the Union Minister of State for Communications requesting that a commemorative postage stamp be issued in honour of Baba Chauharmal.
According to Paswan, the Ministry of Communications has approved the proposal. He said the stamp would soon be unveiled at a special event.
The development was also confirmed in a communication from Minister of State for Communications Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar, who informed Paswan that the proposal had received official approval.
Paswan Thanks Prime Minister
Reacting to the decision, Chirag Paswan thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Central Government for approving the proposal.
According to Paswan, the commemorative stamp would give national recognition to Baba Chauharmal’s legacy and his contribution to promoting courage, social harmony and equality.

Who Was Baba Chauharmal?
Baba Chauharmal is regarded as one of Bihar’s most prominent folk heroes and is particularly revered within the Paswan community.
According to popular belief, he opposed social discrimination, caste-based inequality and injustice while advocating equality and social harmony. Historical accounts and local traditions associate him with acts of courage that have become part of Bihar’s folk heritage.
According to widely held beliefs, Baba Chauharmal was born in 1313 AD on Chaitra Purnima at Shankarwar Tola in the Mokama region of present-day Patna district. His parents are traditionally identified as Bandimal and Raghumati.
Annual Fair Draws Thousands of Devotees
Baba Chauharmal is commemorated every year during Chaitra Purnima, when a large fair is organised in the Mokama Taal region.
According to local tradition, devotees from Bihar and several other states gather to pay their respects. Many offer litti and milk as prasad and pray for peace, prosperity and well-being.

The Ministry of Communications is expected to announce the date and venue for the formal release of the commemorative postage stamp. Once issued, Baba Chauharmal will join the list of personalities honoured by India through special commemorative postal stamps.
