Patna: Two women were killed after being struck by a passing train at Bakhtiyarpur Railway Station on Monday, officials said, in an incident that briefly disrupted rail services and caused panic among passengers.
Police said the women were attempting to cross the tracks when they were hit by the Farakka Express, which was passing through the station at speed.
Incident Captured On CCTV
According to officials, the women tried to climb onto the platform as the train approached. Bystanders attempted to warn and pull them to safety, but the train struck them before they could escape.
CCTV footage of the incident has surfaced and is being examined as part of the investigation.
Services Briefly Suspended
Train operations at the station were halted for a short period following the accident. Railway staff later cleared the tracks and services resumed after about 30 minutes.
The bodies were recovered and sent for further procedures, police said.
Identities Yet To Be Established
The identities of the deceased have not yet been confirmed. The Government Railway Police (GRP) have launched an investigation and are working to trace their families.
Officials said the incident underscores the dangers of crossing railway tracks, despite repeated warnings. Authorities have urged the public to use designated crossings and exercise caution near railway lines.
