Kishanganj: Security agencies have intensified surveillance along the India-Nepal border in Bihar’s Kishanganj district after the Indian Army apprehended a suspected Bangladeshi spy near the Bagdogra military cantonment in Siliguri, West Bengal, late on Friday night.
The accused, identified as Ashraful Alam, reportedly confessed during interrogation to being an agent linked to a Bangladeshi intelligence agency. Army sources said Alam was spotted engaging in suspicious activity near the cantonment area and was swiftly detained. He was later handed over to local police for further investigation.
According to the FIR filed by the police, objectionable documents and electronic devices were seized from Alam. Intelligence agencies are currently examining the recovered materials to assess the extent of the breach.
Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) sources claimed that the arrest could prompt diplomatic communication with the Bangladeshi embassy. Investigators are now working to determine the size of Alam’s network and identify his local contacts.
In the wake of the arrest, the SSB has launched a search operation along the Indo-Nepal border, particularly in the Fatehpur area of Tedhagachh block, known for smuggling and infiltration attempts. Security checks on vehicles and individuals have been intensified. The crackdown has been welcomed by locals, who have praised the swift action by security forces.
