Banka: The district administration in Banka has proposed introducing adventure tourism activities such as parasailing and paramotoring at Odhani Dam, marking a significant push to develop the site into a multi-activity tourist destination. The proposal has been submitted to the Department of Tourism for approval.
Adventure Tourism Proposal Submitted
Officials have outlined plans to start aerial adventure sports at the dam, including parasailing and paramotoring, subject to departmental clearance. The initiative aims to expand visitor experiences beyond existing boating activities.
According to district officials, the proposal also includes provisions for structured safety measures and infrastructure support required for adventure sports operations.
Plans for Recreational and Eco-Tourism Facilities
In addition to adventure sports, the proposal suggests development of an open-air theatre, laser light shows and designated bird-watching points within the Odhani Dam premises.
The administration has also proposed installing solar lighting and adopting renewable energy systems in the area to support sustainable tourism development.
Growing Tourist Footfall at Odhani Dam
Odhani Dam has emerged as a key tourist spot in Banka due to its natural surroundings and calm environment. The site attracts a large number of visitors, particularly on weekends and holidays, with boating currently being the primary recreational activity.
In recent months, a resort and cafeteria were also opened to improve visitor amenities and enhance the overall tourism experience.
Water Sports Academy Proposal
Officials have also confirmed plans to establish Bihar’s first Water Sports Academy at Odhani Dam. A team from Patna had previously visited the site for inspection and found it suitable for the proposed facility.
Around three acres of land have been identified near the dam for the academy, which is expected to support training and development in water-based sports once operational.
Administration’s Outlook
District Development Commissioner Upendra Singh said the proposals aim to position Odhani Dam as a leading centre for adventure tourism in Bihar.
“In the near future, Odhani Dam is set to emerge not only as a major tourist destination but also as a hub for various water sports activities and training,” Singh said.
