Patna: Jan Suraaj candidate Prashant Kishor has taken the lead in the Bankipur Assembly by-election after the seventh round of counting, according to the latest trends released during the ongoing vote count at AN College in Patna.
Counting began at 8 am and is continuing under security arrangements. Police deployment has been increased outside the offices of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), where activity has remained subdued as the results unfold.
Prashant Kishor Opens Up Lead
At the end of the seventh round, Prashant Kishor was leading BJP candidate by 4,007 votes.
The latest vote tally is as follows:
- Jan Suraaj: 13,500 votes
- Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP): 9,493 votes
- Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD): 2,506 votes
The figures are based on the official counting trends available after seven rounds. Final results will be declared after the completion of counting.
Celebrations at Jan Suraaj Office
Supporters of Jan Suraaj gathered outside the counting centre and at the party office after news of the lead emerged. Workers raised slogans of “Jai Bihar” and celebrated by dancing.
Party workers said sweets had been arranged at the Jan Suraaj office and that celebrations would begin once the Election Commission formally declares the result. Supporters have also made preparations for a larger victory celebration if the lead is converted into a win.
Security Measures in Place
As counting continues, security has been tightened outside the BJP and RJD offices in Patna. Police personnel have been deployed to maintain law and order and to prevent any untoward incidents during the counting process.
Authorities have urged party workers and supporters to maintain peace until the official declaration of the election result.
