Sabour :Bihar Agricultural University (BAU), Sabour, has inaugurated a 21-day training programme titled “Agriculture 5.0: Adoption of AI and ICT for Next Generation Agriculture,” sponsored by ICAR. The programme, which commenced today, will run until 17 February 2025 and aims to equip agricultural experts with cutting-edge technological tools to transform farming practices.
The opening session featured prominent dignitaries from the agricultural sector. Dr R.K. Sohane, Programme Director and Director of Extension Education at BAU, highlighted the pivotal role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in shaping the future of agriculture. “This training programme will be instrumental in enriching the institutions of the participants,” he said.
Dr A.K. Singh, Director of Research at BAU, emphasised the importance of leveraging advanced technologies to boost agricultural productivity and sustainability. Similarly, Dr A.K. Singh, Dean of Agriculture at BAU, stressed the transformative potential of AI and ICT in modernising agricultural practices and ensuring long-term food security.
Key figures, including Dr Fiza Ahmad, Director of Seeds and Farms, and Dr R.N. Singh, Co-Director of Extension Education, also addressed the participants, underscoring the importance of adopting innovative methods in farming.
The programme has attracted 27 participants from across the country, including agricultural scientists, researchers, and educators from states such as Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Bihar.
BAU Vice-Chancellor Dr D.R. Singh expressed his optimism about the initiative, stating, “The future of agriculture depends on our ability to adopt advanced technologies like AI and ICT. This programme is a significant step towards preparing the farming community for upcoming challenges. I am confident that the participants will gain invaluable experience, propelling Indian agriculture forward.”
Organised under the Centre for Advanced Faculty Training (CAFT) established by ICAR New Delhi, the programme is led by coordinators Dr Aditya Sinha and Dr C.K. Panda. This marks the sixth such training initiative hosted by the university, which has been instrumental in providing high-quality education to agricultural professionals.
The programme is expected to empower participants with the skills and knowledge needed to revolutionise agricultural practices, improve productivity, and contribute to global food security in the face of growing challenges.
