Muzaffarpur: The East Zone Inter-University Volleyball (Men) Championship began on Tuesday in Muzaffarpur with a grand opening ceremony hosted by B.R. Ambedkar Bihar University (BRABU). The event, held at the Tirhut College of Physical Education in Jhapaha, has brought together 53 university teams from across the eastern region. The championship will run until 14 December and is expected to showcase some of the strongest emerging talent in university-level volleyball.
The opening ceremony featured several senior officials. Dr Kaushal Kishore, Commissioner of the Tirhut division, attended as the Chief Guest, while Rakesh Kumar, DIG of CRPF Muzaffarpur, was present as the Distinguished Guest. Both were welcomed warmly by the organisers and praised the university for hosting the event on such a large scale.
BRABU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dinesh Chandra Rai, who presided over the ceremony, said the championship was not just about competition but also about strengthening national values. He said sports were a powerful tool for nation-building, helping students learn discipline, teamwork and respect. He also urged all participating teams to maintain fairness and true sportsmanship during the matches. Prof Rai added that BRABU was proud to host the event for the second year in a row, reinforcing its commitment to the Khelo India and Fit India missions.
Chief Guest Dr Kishore said the tournament was an excellent platform to identify and develop players who could go on to represent India in the future. DIG Rakesh Kumar added that sports played a vital role in building character and leadership among young people. The event also saw the presence of several senior university officials, faculty members and sports advisers. The session was conducted by Dr Amar Bahadur Shukla, and the vote of thanks was given by Dr Ashok Kumar Sah.
