Bhagalpur/Patna : The Sandis Compound Stadium in Bhagalpur is being prepared to host BCCI domestic cricket matches, marking a significant development for cricket in the district.
The Bihar Cricket Association (BCA) has formally informed the Bhagalpur district administration about the proposed matches and asked officials to ensure that the ground and related facilities are kept ready on priority.
Pitch and Ground Preparations Underway
Preparations at the stadium have entered the final stage, according to Dr Jai Shankar Thakur, secretary of the District Bhagalpur Cricket Association.
He said preparations are being carried out in accordance with BCA guidelines. A BCA team may visit the venue again to inspect the ground and assess the arrangements.
Work is also underway to install rain-gun sprinklers for ground maintenance. Underground pipelines are being laid around the pitch to facilitate efficient water sprinkling and help maintain the playing surface.
BCA Seeks Administration’s Cooperation
BCA Chief Executive Officer Manish Raj sent an email to the concerned officials on September 19, urging them to give priority to the required arrangements.
A BCA team has already inspected the ground and available facilities as part of the preparations.
The cricket association has also requested the district administration and other concerned agencies to extend full cooperation during the proposed matches. The BCA has emphasised coordination among the agencies involved in organising the games.
Match Schedule Yet to Be Announced
While preparations are progressing, the BCA communication does not currently mention the match dates, participating teams or detailed schedule.
The final programme is expected to be communicated after the venue and other arrangements are assessed and approved.
The proposed BCCI domestic matches could give Bhagalpur an opportunity to host higher-level competitive cricket and further strengthen the city’s sporting infrastructure.
