Bhagalpur/Patna: Bhagalpur’s zero mile, the landmark point from which road distances are measured, is being relocated to Chaudhrydih near the Munger–Mirzachowki Greenfield Fourlane crossing, 4.7 km from its current site.
The change will bring commuters to Patna five kilometres closer—reducing the distance from 251 km to 246 km—while increasing the journey to Purnia from 83 km to 87 km. Distances to Navgachiya and Kahalgaon will also rise slightly, while Banka and Godda will see improved connectivity.
Officials said the move would integrate more of Bhagalpur’s bypass into the national highway system. Once the Greenfield Fourlane is completed, the bypass from Purani Sarai to Chaudhrydih will be redesignated as NH-80, reshaping travel routes across the region.
The project includes a 22-metre-wide four-lane road from Navgachiya to Chaudhrydih, to be built in two phases. Authorities say the new alignment will cut travel times for many commuters, though others may face longer routes.
