Patna: Bhojpuri singer Pawan Singh announced on social media on Saturday that he will not contest the upcoming Bihar assembly elections, affirming his loyalty to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
“I want to tell my Bhojpuri community that I did not join the party to contest the Bihar assembly elections, nor do I want to contest them now. I am and will remain a true soldier of the party,” Singh said.

The announcement comes amid an ongoing personal dispute with his wife, Jyoti Singh. On Friday, she met with Jansuraj founder Prashant Kishore, expressing her concerns during a 20-minute meeting. “This should not happen to any other woman,” she reportedly said.
Singh recently met with Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP president JP Nadda in Delhi, fuelling speculation about his renewed association with the party. The singer originally joined the BJP in 2017 but defied the party in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections by contesting as an independent from Karakat, resulting in his expulsion on May 22. At that time, he was a member of the state executive committee.
“I never walked away from the BJP; the circumstances were different,” Singh said following his meetings in Delhi. Analysts suggest his return could strengthen the party’s prospects across 22 assembly seats in Shahabad, including Bhojpur, Buxar, Rohtas, and Kaimur.
