Kaimur: The Bihar government has launched a new plan to help farmers earn more money by growing spices. As part of the Integrated Horticulture Development Mission, Kaimur district has been given a target to grow seed spices on 45 hectares of land in the 2025–26 financial year.
Farmers in the area will now grow coriander, fenugreek, mangrela (nigella), and celery, along with their regular crops. Dr Abhay Kumar Gaurav, the Assistant Director of Horticulture, said this move will increase the total production and help farmers make better profits due to the medicinal and nutritional value of these spices.
The scheme is open to all farmers, whether they own land or not. Applications are being taken online. The government has fixed a cost of Rs 50,000 per hectare for growing these spices. Farmers will get help in two parts: first Rs 12,000 to buy seeds, and then Rs 8,000 after officials check the crops.
Under the plan, coriander will be grown on 15 hectares, while fenugreek, mangrela, and celery will be planted on 10 hectares each. The government will give a 40% subsidy—up to Rs 20,000 per hectare—to make spice farming easier and more profitable for Bihar’s farmers.
