Sabur/Mumbai: In a jubilant moment for Bihar and India’s rural communication landscape, Bihar Agricultural University (BAU), Sabour, stole the spotlight on the final day of the prestigious World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES 2025), held at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai. FM Green, the university’s flagship community radio station, was awarded first place in the agriculture and rural development category, triumphing over strong finalists from Gujarat and Chhattisgarh.

Organised with the aim of establishing India as a global hub for media and content creation, WAVES Summit 2025 saw participation from over 100 countries and received more than one lakh entries. The closing ceremony was a grand affair, attended by key officials from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, and representatives from across the world.

The award was jointly presented by the Director of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the President of the Community Radio Organisation. Shri Ishwar Chandra, in-charge of FM Green and the university’s community radio operations, accepted the honour on behalf of the team. A short film showcasing the impactful role of FM Green in agricultural dissemination was played during the ceremony, earning applause from the international audience.

In addition to the recognition, the university received a cash prize of Rs 50,000 and a commemorative memento. The university community celebrated the achievement, recognising the dedicated efforts of RJ Annu, student contributors, and the broader team behind FM Green. The title track of their award-winning programme, Millet Express, was sung by Titli, daughter of a university professor, while valuable insights into agricultural technology and startup journeys were shared by Dr Mahesh Kumar and Priya Soni, respectively.

Earlier in the summit, another community radio initiative from BAU — CRS KVK Patna — was awarded top honours in the women and child development category. Their stall was visited by none other than Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who interacted with the team and praised their contributions to grassroots communication.

University Vice Chancellor Dr D. R. Singh called it a “moment of double happiness” and praised the university’s radio teams for elevating the institution’s extension work to global standards. “We are proud of all our radio stations. They are proof that our agricultural extension system is not only robust but internationally competitive,” he said.

Dr Rajesh Kumar, Public Relations Officer and Media Centre Incharge, echoed the sentiment, asserting that BAU’s creative media wing has once again demonstrated that it possesses the best extension system and media talent in the country.

WAVES 2025 was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and featured participation from cultural icons such as Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Alia Bhatt, Rajinikanth, A.R. Rahman and Karan Johar. Business leaders including Mukesh Ambani and Nita Ambani also attended, underlining the summit’s focus on harnessing India’s digital and entertainment prowess under the ‘Make in India’ initiative.

For BAU, the accolades at WAVES 2025 not only reaffirm its commitment to grassroots empowerment but also place Bihar firmly on the map as a creative and agricultural innovation hub.
