Patna: The Bihar government has begun preparations to use Artificial Intelligence (AI) to improve public services and increase employment and income across the state. Under a new initiative called the Bihar Artificial Intelligence Mission, AI will be introduced in important departments such as agriculture, health, education, industry, transport and urban development. The aim is to make government services faster, more transparent and more helpful for ordinary people. Officials say this technology-based approach will help solve long-standing problems and improve the quality of life for citizens.
To manage and monitor the mission, the state has formed a high-level committee led by the Chief Secretary. Senior officers from departments including health, education, agriculture, industry and information technology are part of this committee. Experts and representatives from educational institutions will also support the mission. In the first stage, the government will focus on sectors that directly affect people’s daily lives, such as farming, healthcare, governance and climate-related planning. The information technology department has already issued guidelines to start work on the ground.
Agriculture is expected to benefit greatly from the use of AI. The government plans to provide farmers with clear and timely information about which crops to grow, the best time to sow seeds and how to increase production based on soil quality, weather conditions and rainfall. AI tools will also help predict crop output and market demand, allowing farmers to sell their produce at the right time and price. This is expected to reduce losses, improve planning and increase farmers’ income over time.
In the health sector, AI will be used to improve access to treatment and the overall quality of care. People will be able to get basic advice through AI systems before visiting a doctor, helping them reach the right hospital or specialist faster. Hospitals will also use AI to manage resources better, monitor patient care and improve services. The government believes this will lead to quicker treatment, better hospital management and new job opportunities for young people trained in technology and healthcare support.
Education and governance will also see important changes. In schools and colleges, AI will help understand students’ learning needs and offer guidance for studies and careers. In government offices, AI will be used to speed up decision-making and improve transparency. The technology will also support planning in areas like climate change, urban development and industry by predicting future needs and risks. Overall, the Bihar AI Mission is expected to create new jobs, increase income and make government schemes more effective, helping the state move towards a more modern and inclusive future.
