Patna: Work on a key stretch of a 230-kilometre greenfield expressway linking Amas in Gaya district to Darbhanga is being accelerated, with district authorities in Patna directing officials to expedite land acquisition and clear bottlenecks.
The project, part of the central government’s Bharatmala Pariyojana, is expected to improve connectivity between southern and northern Bihar, passing through parts of Patna district between Ramnagar and Kacchi Dargah.
At a meeting of the Project Monitoring Group on Tuesday, Patna district magistrate Thiyagarajan SM instructed the sub-divisional officer of Masaurhi to ensure faster progress through closer coordination among agencies. He emphasised that pending issues should be resolved swiftly to avoid delays in construction.
Once completed, the six-lane expressway is expected to significantly cut travel time between key districts including Gaya, Aurangabad, Patna, Vaishali, Samastipur and Darbhanga. Officials say the improved corridor will also support freight movement and stimulate regional economic activity.
Authorities said more than 30 state and centrally sponsored infrastructure projects are currently under way in the district, with efforts being made to address minor administrative and logistical hurdles.
The district magistrate directed officials to adhere to deadlines and maintain quality standards, while prioritising land acquisition, removal of encroachments and timely compensation to affected landowners. He warned that delays would not be tolerated and called for revenue village-level camps to resolve pending cases more efficiently.
Progress of projects led by agencies including the National Highways Authority of India, the Bihar State Bridge Construction Corporation and the state road construction department was also reviewed during the meeting.
Officials were asked to submit weekly progress reports and ensure coordination to resolve any obstacles. The district administration said inspections are being carried out regularly to monitor on-ground developments.
Meanwhile, work on other major infrastructure projects in and around Patna, including the metro rail network, the Danapur-Bihta elevated corridor, the Patna-Ara-Sasaram highway and the proposed ring road, is continuing, with authorities describing overall progress as satisfactory.
