Biharsharif/Patna: JD(U) MLA Anant Singh has said that Nishant Kumar, the son of chief minister Nitish Kumar, is the most suitable candidate to lead Bihar in the future, ruling out other possibilitiesfor the post.
Speaking to reporters during a visit to Nalanda, the chief minister’s home district, Singh described Nishant Kumar as “well-educated” and “honest”, and said he possessed the qualities required to take on the role.
Singh, who represents Mokama and is often referred to as “Chhote Sarkar”, added that if Nitish Kumar chose not to contest future elections, he too might refrain from entering the fray, suggesting his son could contest in his place.
The remarks come amid ongoing political speculation over leadership succession within the JD(U) and the broader alliance in Bihar.
Responding to questions about Nitish Kumar’s recent visit to Delhi, Singh downplayed its significance, describing it as routine and saying the government’s focus would remain on development work in the state.
The visit to Nalanda marked Singh’s first to the district following his recent release from jail, where he had spent several months in connection with a murder case linked to the 2025 Bihar assembly elections.
During the visit, Singh travelled from Bihar Sharif to meet former RJD MLA Naushad-un-Nabi, also known as Pappu Khan, where he was welcomed by supporters who gathered in large numbers.
His comments are likely to add to discussions around future leadership within the JD(U), particularly as the party prepares for upcoming electoral contests in the state.
