Bihar Announces New Cancer Care Society To Boost Prevention And Treatment

Bihar held its third biodiversity workshop in Patna to finalise plans for preserving animal and fishery resources, as part of a state strategy aligned with national conservation goals.

Patna: Bihar’s Health Minister, Mangal Pandey, has hailed the cabinet’s approval of the Bihar Cancer Care and Research Society as a “historic decision” aimed at strengthening the state’s fight against cancer through improved prevention, timely treatment, and research.

The decision was taken during a state cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday. According to Pandey, the newly established society will serve as an apex institution, dedicated to providing streamlined and accessible cancer care services within Bihar.

“Before 2005, people from Bihar had to leave the state even for basic medical treatment. But under the Chief Minister’s leadership, we are witnessing transformative reforms in the health sector,” Pandey said.

The move comes in response to a steady rise in cancer cases and the growing number of patients being identified through expanded screening programmes. The government aims to reinforce the existing healthcare infrastructure by integrating treatment, awareness campaigns, and medical training under a single dedicated body.

Pandey said the society will not only deliver prompt and appropriate treatment to patients but also drive public awareness programmes and support research and training to strengthen the overall healthcare system.

“The Bihar Cancer Care and Research Society will offer dedicated, centralised services, and mark a major leap in the quality, reach, and impact of cancer care across the state,” he added.
