Patna : Bihar is set to expand its electric vehicle infrastructure and modernise public transport, with an electric vehicle (EV) charging station planned at the Bihar Assembly by the end of October and 125 electric buses expected to arrive in Gaya in November.
The developments were discussed at a meeting between Transport Department officials and Assembly Speaker Dr Prem Kumar on Friday. Transport Secretary Raj Kumar assured the Speaker that the charging station would be installed within the stipulated timeline.
The state is also planning to modernise bus stands at 31 locations, develop a multi-storey inter-state bus terminal in Gaya and introduce a mobile application to help passengers track buses in real time.
EV Charging Station At Bihar Assembly By October End
The Transport Department plans to install an EV charging station within the Bihar Assembly premises by the end of October.
Transport Secretary Raj Kumar gave the assurance during the meeting with Speaker Dr Prem Kumar. The facility is part of the state’s efforts to strengthen charging infrastructure as electric vehicles become a growing part of public transport and mobility planning.
Gaya To Receive 125 Electric Buses In November
Gaya is expected to receive 125 electric buses from the Central Government in November.
The proposed addition is expected to strengthen public transport services in the city and support the use of electric mobility.
The development is part of a wider plan to improve transport facilities and expand access to public transport in Bihar.
Seven-Storey Bus Terminal Planned In Gaya
A major redevelopment project is also planned for Gaya’s existing bus stand, which is proposed to be transformed into a seven-storey inter-state bus terminal.
According to the plan, the ground floor will be used for parking, while the first and second floors will house a shopping complex. The third to seventh floors are proposed to accommodate a hotel and a multiplex.
The project is expected to be completed within two years. The tender process is scheduled to begin soon.
The proposed terminal is intended to bring transport and commercial facilities together at one location.
31 Bus Stands To Be Modernised
The state plans to modernise bus stands at 31 locations across Bihar under a public-private partnership (PPP) model.
The initiative is aimed at improving passenger facilities and upgrading transport infrastructure. Details of the individual locations and project timelines were not specified in the information shared at the meeting.
‘Where Is My Bus’ App In Development
The Transport Department is also developing a mobile application called ‘Where Is My Bus’ to make bus travel more convenient.

Once launched, the application is expected to improve access to information about bus services, although an official launch date has not yet been announced.
Rs 1 Lakh EV Subsidy For Rural Women
The state is also providing a subsidy of Rs 1 lakh to rural women purchasing four-wheeler electric vehicles, according to the information shared.
