Patna: Bihar Police has said that 694 people were detained across the state during protests, demonstrations and marches organised on July 25 by various student organisations and student wings of political parties, with 355 individuals produced before courts over their alleged involvement in violent incidents.
In a detailed report released on Monday, the Bihar Police Headquarters said 339 detainees, including students and minors, were released after verification, while investigations into those accused of violence are continuing.
Police Report Details Statewide Violence
According to the police, the protests escalated into violence at several locations, with incidents of stone-pelting, attacks on police personnel and damage to public property reported from multiple districts.
The report states that 91 police officers and personnel were injured during the unrest. Among those hurt were the Superintendents of Police of Siwan and Sitamarhi, two Sub-Divisional Police Officers and several Station House Officers. The Station House Officer of Gandhi Maidan police station was reported to have sustained critical injuries.
Police also said 13 civilians were injured during the violence.
Government Vehicles Damaged
The Police Headquarters said 14 government vehicles were damaged during the protests, while one vehicle was set on fire.
It described the violence in Saran district as particularly serious, citing attacks on senior administrative officials.
According to the report, the Block Development Officer (BDO) of Sadar Block suffered severe injuries and lost vision in one eye following an assault. He is undergoing treatment at IGIMS, Patna.
The report also said the BDO of Rivilganj Block sustained a serious head injury in what police described as a life-threatening attack. He underwent surgery at Medanta Hospital and remains under medical care.

Police Say Legal Action Underway
In its statement, the Bihar Police Headquarters said action was being taken against those allegedly involved in the violence based on available evidence.
“Incidents of violence, damage to public property, and attacks on police and administrative officials under the guise of protests have been viewed seriously. The perpetrators are being identified, and legal proceedings against them are underway,” the statement said.
The police added that measures were being taken to maintain law and order across the state.
The July 25 protests, held under the banner of the Bihar Bandh, saw demonstrations by student groups and political organisations across several districts. While many protests remained peaceful, violence was reported at multiple locations, prompting police action and subsequent investigations.
