Patna: The Bihar government has drafted the ‘Beti Startup Challenge’, a proposed scheme that will provide grants ranging from Rs 50,000 to Rs 2 lakh for innovative business ideas. The scheme is aimed at encouraging young women in the state to develop startups and become entrepreneurs.
The draft has been prepared by the Higher Education Department following directions from Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary. The proposal will require approval from the Finance Department before being placed before the state cabinet.
Scheme Awaits Government Approval
According to a budget officer of the Higher Education Department, the draft of the scheme has been prepared and its eligibility criteria have been finalised.
Once the Finance Department clears the proposal and the Cabinet gives its approval, the scheme is expected to be implemented during the current financial year.
The government has also proposed that the grant amount could be increased in the future.
Focus On Innovative Business Ideas
Applicants will have to be permanent residents of Bihar and at least 18 years old. Selection will give priority to startup proposals based on new, practical and innovative ideas with the potential to generate employment.
A committee will evaluate the project proposals submitted by applicants. The Higher Education Department will receive support from the Industries Department during the evaluation and implementation process.
First Startup Scheme From Higher Education Department
The proposed initiative would be the first startup scheme of the Higher Education Department in Bihar and is specifically designed to support young women seeking to establish businesses.
The scheme was announced by Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan. The proposal is intended to promote financial self-reliance among women while encouraging them to develop businesses capable of creating employment.
Joint Implementation
The Higher Education Department and the Industries Department will jointly implement the scheme if it receives the required approvals.
The emphasis on innovation means applicants will need to demonstrate the practical application and employment potential of their proposed startup ideas.
