Bihar Braces for Extreme Heat in April and May as Temperatures Soar

Patna: Bihar is experiencing an early surge in temperatures, raising concerns over an impending heatwave. On Thursday, Buxar recorded the highest temperature in the state at 36.7°C, while Aurangabad also saw the mercury rise above 36°C. Several other districts reported maximum temperatures exceeding 35°C.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Patna, most districts in Bihar saw temperatures above 30°C on Thursday. Darbhanga recorded 32.4°C, Chapra 32.5°C, Begusarai 33.4°C, Bhagalpur 32°C, Banka 35.1°C, Gaya 35.6°C, Patna 34.4°C, and Purnia 31.4°C.

Meteorologists warn that the ongoing temperature rise in mid-March suggests a severe heatwave in the coming weeks. April and May could see record-breaking temperatures, with the heat expected to intensify over the next two days. A brief respite is anticipated on March 16, with a forecast of light rain due to an approaching western disturbance.

Night-time temperatures are also expected to rise by 5°C above normal, exacerbating discomfort even after sunset. While the predicted rainfall may offer temporary relief, experts caution that the heat will return soon after, making the summer months particularly challenging for residents.
