Patna: As the monsoon approaches, the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) has announced a citywide preparedness plan to address urban flooding and waterlogging. Starting from May 9 and continuing until October 15, PMC has mobilised Quick Response Teams (QRTs) across all 19 municipal zones.
Each of the 19 QRTs will cover five wards, totalling all 75 wards under PMC. The teams are equipped with vehicles and water drainage machines, and are instructed to respond within 15 minutes of rainfall. The initiative comes under the direction of the municipal commissioner as part of a broader monsoon action plan.
Residents experiencing drainage issues are encouraged to lodge complaints by calling 155304. A 24×7 helpline and response mechanism has been set up to ensure timely intervention. PMC has stated that problems reported through the helpline will be resolved within a few hours.
Alongside the QRT deployment, alternative drainage arrangements using machinery have been made available in every zone.
The Corporation has also stepped up monitoring of sump houses across the city. Staff are working in three shifts, with water levels being observed using CCTV and walkie-talkie communication systems. Real-time data is being collected at the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC).
