Patna: Signs of another shift in Bihar’s weather have emerged, with the Patna Meteorological Centre predicting a drop of 2 to 3 degrees Celsius in minimum temperatures over the next 48 hours. Light to moderate fog is also expected in northern parts of the state, potentially affecting morning visibility.
Over the past 24 hours, Agwanpur in Saharsa district recorded the lowest temperature in Bihar at 9.1 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, Patna registered a minimum temperature of 15.9 degrees Celsius. Other districts, including Gaya, Bhagalpur, Aurangabad, and Buxar, also experienced a slight dip in night temperatures.
However, the early onset of summer has raised concerns across the state, with temperatures soaring 4 to 5 degrees Celsius above normal. This rise poses a threat to the wheat crop, particularly in southern Bihar, where temperatures are significantly higher than usual. In northern Bihar, the deviation has been slightly lower, with an increase of 2 to 2.5 degrees Celsius above the seasonal norm.
February, typically a month of mild cold, has seen temperatures surpassing 30 degrees Celsius in multiple districts, including Buxar, Gaya, Dehri, Aurangabad, Khagaria, and Munger. In Patna, Purnia, Madhubani, Motihari, Bhojpur, Jamui, Banka, and Rajgir, temperatures have also neared the 30-degree mark.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast continued fluctuations in weather conditions over the coming days, with a likely rise in temperature by the end of February. This could intensify the heat, raising concerns over a potential heatwave in parts of the state next week. Farmers and residents are closely monitoring the situation, as the premature rise in temperature could have significant implications for both daily life and agriculture.
