Patna: In a move to improve inter-state public transport and provide smoother travel for migrant workers, the Bihar Cabinet has approved a proposal to introduce both AC and non-AC buses on routes connecting the state to Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, and West Bengal.
The decision includes the purchase of 74 non-AC deluxe buses and 75 AC deluxe buses by the Bihar State Road Transport Corporation. To facilitate this, the Cabinet has sanctioned a grant of Rs 50.32 crore for the non-AC buses, calculated at Rs 68 lakh per bus, and Rs 55.50 crore for the AC buses.
To further expand inter-state connectivity, the government will also support the induction of 150 new AC 44-seater sleeper buses under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) model. Private bus operators purchasing these buses will receive an incentive of Rs 20 lakh per vehicle.
According to Additional Chief Secretary of the Cabinet Secretariat Department, Dr. S Siddhartha, the initiative aims to alleviate the difficulties faced by workers traveling home during festivals and improve the overall accessibility and quality of public transport.
