Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday inaugurated a newly constructed 500-bed hospital building at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS), further expanding the institute’s capacity to 1,700 beds. The development aims to provide better healthcare facilities and ease patient load. Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary and Health Minister Mangal Pandey were also present at the event.
Constructed at a cost of Rs 280 crore, the six-storey hospital building was completed after a three-year wait. Currently, two blocks, A and D, have been inaugurated. The facility includes dedicated wards, OPDs, operation theatres (OTs), a Critical Care Unit, and a General Emergency for every department. Doctors, nurses, and paramedical staff will be stationed on the same floors as their respective departments, ensuring 24-hour medical care.
For admitted patients, bedside sample collection for pathological tests will be available, along with radiological examination facilities. The new infrastructure also features modular operation theatres, a high-dependency unit (HDU), and a recovery ICU for post-surgical care, all of which are located on the fifth floor.
In addition to medical advancements, the hospital premises have been landscaped with trees and plants to promote a clean environment. Waiting halls have also been set up on each floor for patients’ relatives.
