Patna: Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday inaugurated the much-awaited double-decker flyover connecting Kargil Chowk to Science College via PMCH, a Rs 422 crore project aimed at decongesting the densely packed Ashok Rajpath corridor.

Constructed over two years by the Bihar State Bridge Construction Corporation Limited, the elevated structure features two distinct levels of vehicular movement. The upper deck (Tier-II), measuring 2.17 km, will carry traffic from Gandhi Maidan to Science College, while the lower deck (Tier-I), 1.44 km long, is designed for vehicles moving from Patna College to Gandhi Maidan.

Inspecting the flyover post-inauguration, the Chief Minister paused at key sections to review connectivity to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH). “This has been very well constructed,” CM Nitish said. “With this project, traffic on Ashok Rajpath will be much smoother, and commuters will no longer face the regular jams.”

The corridor includes dedicated exits to PMCH from both tiers and a deck width of 8.5 metres. Officials described the project as a significant milestone in the city’s urban mobility strategy.

Senior ministers and officials including Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, Road Construction Minister Nitin Naveen, and Principal Secretary S. Siddharth were present at the launch. The Chief Minister also acknowledged the role of engineers and officials for timely completion of the project.
