Patna: Bihar has collected ₹230 crores in e-challans this year, with the total expected to reach ₹250 crores by the end of December. The state ranks fourth in the country for transport fines, according to a report by the Union Transport Ministry.
The report reveals that Uttar Pradesh leads the country with ₹393 crore in transport fines, followed by Maharashtra at ₹301 crore and Rajasthan at ₹292 crore. Bihar stands at the seventh position in terms of e-challan issuance, with Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Haryana, and West Bengal occupying the top six spots.
So far, Bihar has issued 25 lakh e-challans, with 19 lakh issued by the Traffic Police and 6 lakh by the Transport Department. On average, over two lakh e-challans are being issued monthly, and the state collects around ₹20 crore in fines each month.
Experts attribute Bihar’s strong performance to the strict enforcement of traffic rules and the consistent imposition of fines. This has contributed to both an increase in the number of e-challans issued and a significant rise in revenue collection.
