Patna: The government of Bihar has initiated an ambitious plan to develop 55 affiliated colleges as “Centres of Excellence”, aiming to significantly improve the quality of higher education in the state.

The Higher Education Department has prepared a detailed strategy and action plan, with implementation already under way. As part of the initiative, infrastructure audits will be conducted in all selected colleges to assess existing facilities and identify areas for improvement.

Officials said development priorities will be set based on these audit reports, ensuring targeted upgrades. Each college will also have a dedicated committee to oversee the execution of the plan.

The project will be implemented in two phases, according to senior department officials. Under the scheme, institutions will be equipped with modern laboratories, digital libraries, internet connectivity, smart classrooms, and dedicated innovation and research centres.

In addition, libraries with around 5,000 books will be established, and regular academic interaction programmes between faculty and students will be introduced. Student counselling services will also be strengthened as part of the initiative.

The plan also emphasises the development of updated teaching and learning materials, particularly for new faculty members, alongside efforts to promote research activities across institutions.

Authorities said Artificial Intelligence will play a key role in connecting institutions and building a more efficient and high-quality education ecosystem.

The initiative is expected to enhance academic standards, encourage innovation and create better opportunities for students across Bihar.
