Patna: The Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) has declared the results of the fourth phase of the competency test (Sakshamta Pariksha 4.0), with 4,932 teachers qualifying out of 14,936 candidates who appeared for the examination.
Announcing the results on Saturday, the board’s chairperson, Anand Kishor, said the overall pass percentage stood at 30.47%. Teachers who have cleared the test will now be granted the status of state government employees, a long-standing demand among locally appointed teachers in Bihar.
At the middle-school level (classes 6 to 8), 266 of the 387 candidates passed, recording a success rate of 68.73%. For secondary classes (9 and 10), 354 of 592 candidates were declared successful, a pass rate of 59.80%. At the senior secondary level (classes 11 and 12), 130 out of 231 candidates qualified, amounting to 56.28%.

The fourth phase of the competency test was conducted between September and October 2025, with examinations held on multiple dates for different subjects. The social science paper scheduled for 12 October was cancelled due to technical issues and later reconducted on 22 October.
Kishor also announced that the fifth and final phase of the competency test will be held between January and February next year.
On the same day, the board launched an online Document Verification System (DVS), which will allow verification of certificates and mark sheets related to matriculation, intermediate examinations, teacher eligibility tests, and D.El.Ed and the competency examinations.
The pass percentage in the fourth phase marks a continued decline from earlier rounds. While the first phase of the exam, held in early 2024, recorded a pass rate of about 94%, the second phase saw 81% of candidates qualify. In the third phase, conducted in July 2025, only around 32% were successful.
Bihar currently has about 368,000 locally appointed teachers. Of these, approximately 266,786 have already cleared earlier phases of the competency test and obtained state employee status. Around 80,000 teachers are still in the process of qualifying through the remaining phases.
