Patna: Bihar Deputy Chief Minister (CM), Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, graced the 50th Annual Sports Meet-2023 of St. Michael High School in Patna as the Chief Guest on Saturday, emphasizing the importance of sports in a holistic education system.
In a statement shared on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the Deputy CM expressed his delight in participating and witnessing various sports events, underscoring the multifaceted benefits of sports for physical and mental well-being. He highlighted the role of sports in instilling values such as sportsmanship, teamwork, compatibility, perseverance, and resilience. Additionally, Tejashwi outlined the state government’s commitment to promoting a sports culture through the implementation of the New Sports Policy, aimed at nurturing talent, building infrastructure, and encouraging athletes across the state.
Addressing the gathering, the deputy CM reflected on his family’s political legacy, noting that both his parents had served as Chief Ministers of Bihar. He emphasized his principled approach to education, stating that despite the opportunity to obtain a degree through illegitimate means, he chose not to compromise his integrity.
Dispelling traditional notions about academics and sports, the Deputy CM asserted, “Now is the era of sports. Children should go to the field and play. One should not be busy only with gadgets.”
He acknowledged the societal challenge of unemployment and outlined the government’s efforts to address it by creating job opportunities for talented athletes. Tejashwi Yadav pledged to appoint 81 players as officers, with the appointment letters set to be issued soon.
Furthermore, he advocated for a sports-centric environment in every school, extending the initiative to rural areas. Highlighting the government’s commitment to education, Tejashwi Yadav proudly mentioned the appointment of 1.22 lakh teachers in a single day, a feat unprecedented in the country.
