Patna: Bihar Director General of Police (DGP) Vinay Kumar is set to become the state’s next Chief Information Commissioner, with a selection committee reportedly reaching a consensus on his name.
According to reports, the decision emerged from a meeting attended by Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav and Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary.
The committee discussed the appointment to the key constitutional and administrative position, with Vinay Kumar’s name reportedly receiving agreement from the members.
The formal notification confirming his appointment and the date on which he will assume charge are awaited.
Selection Committee Reaches Consensus
The selection committee meeting was convened to decide on the next Chief Information Commissioner of Bihar.
Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary chaired the process, with Tejashwi Yadav participating as the Leader of Opposition and Deputy CM Vijay Kumar Chaudhary also attending.
According to the available information, the committee reached a consensus on Vinay Kumar’s name during the meeting.
The appointment is expected to fill the key position in the Bihar State Information Commission, which handles matters related to citizens’ right to information.
Who Is Vinay Kumar?
Vinay Kumar is a 1990-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the Bihar cadre.
He has served as Bihar’s Director General of Police and held senior responsibilities in the state police administration.
His proposed appointment as Chief Information Commissioner comes amid discussions over the selection of a new DGP for Bihar.
Reports indicate that Vinay Kumar had proceeded on extended leave in September, while the process to identify his successor as police chief was also underway.
Anjani Kumar Singh to Become Information Commissioner
Meanwhile, Anjani Kumar Singh is also reported to have been selected as an Information Commissioner in the Bihar State Information Commission.
In the new role, he will participate in hearings and the disposal of cases relating to the Right to Information (RTI) Act.
The State Information Commission plays an important role in hearing appeals and complaints concerning access to information held by public authorities.
What Does the Chief Information Commissioner Do?
The Chief Information Commissioner heads the State Information Commission and oversees its functioning under the Right to Information Act, 2005.
The commission hears appeals and complaints from citizens who face difficulties obtaining information from public authorities.
