Patna: The Economic Offences Unit (EOU) of Bihar has registered a disproportionate assets case against Amit Kumar Gupta, an Enforcement Sub-Inspector posted at the Mohania check post of the Kaimur Transport Department, and launched searches at his premises in Bhojpur and Danapur.
According to the EOU, a preliminary investigation found evidence suggesting that Gupta had allegedly acquired assets worth more than Rs 1.49 crore beyond his known sources of legitimate income.
The agency has begun searches to collect documents and other evidence related to the alleged assets.
Assets Allegedly 148.10% Above Known Income
According to the investigating agency, the value of the assets identified during the preliminary inquiry was approximately 148.10% higher than Gupta’s known sources of income.
Based on the findings, the EOU registered a case under relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The allegations are subject to investigation, and the searches are part of the ongoing probe.
Case Registered Under EOU Police Case No. 26/26
The EOU registered Police Case No. 26/26 in connection with the alleged disproportionate assets.
Following registration of the case, the agency obtained search warrants from the Special Court, Vigilance, Patna, before launching searches at the identified premises.
Searches Conducted in Bhojpur and Danapur
Two EOU teams, led by officers of Deputy Superintendent of Police rank, began the search operation on the morning of September 30.
One team conducted a search at Gupta’s private residence in Bhojpur.
The second team searched Flat No. 609 at Sai Vardaan City in Danapur, where investigators examined documents and other material related to the case.
Documents and Property Records Under Scrutiny
During the searches, EOU officials are examining documents and information relating to properties and other assets allegedly connected with the accused official.
The searches are intended to verify the information gathered during the preliminary investigation and establish the nature and source of the assets under scrutiny.
Detailed Findings Awaited After Searches
The EOU has said that details regarding recoveries and other findings will be released after the search operations are completed.
The agency is expected to examine the documents and other material collected during the searches as part of its ongoing investigation into the alleged disproportionate assets.
