Patna: The Economic Offences Unit (EOU) in Bihar has carried out raids at multiple locations linked to an electricity department official as part of an investigation into alleged disproportionate assets.
Officials said searches were conducted at seven premises associated with Manoj Kumar Rajak, an executive engineer with North Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited (NBPDCL), early on Sunday.
Preliminary findings suggest the officer may have accumulated assets worth about 62.66% more than his known sources of income, prompting the investigation.
The EOU said it had been receiving inputs for some time alleging that Rajak, posted in Jaynagar, had amassed wealth by abusing his position. After gathering evidence, the unit registered a case and obtained court permission to conduct searches.
Raids were carried out simultaneously at properties in Darbhanga, Jaynagar, and locations in Nirmali and Karjain.
During the searches, officials recovered documents, bank passbooks and investment records, which are being examined against the engineer’s income profile.
Investigators said the inquiry was ongoing and could reveal further details about both movable and immovable assets, including properties allegedly held in the names of relatives.
The action comes amid a wider anti-corruption drive by the state government, with agencies such as the EOU and vigilance department stepping up operations against public officials suspected of financial irregularities.
Officials said further details, including any seizures of cash or valuables, could be disclosed once the investigation progresses.
