Patna: The Bihar Fair Price Dealers Association has announced an indefinite strike set to commence from December 1, citing unfulfilled demands, including the provision of a monthly honorarium of Rs30,000 to distributors within Bihar’s distribution system, aligning with the compensation model in Gujarat. Despite prior notifications, the demands remain unaddressed, prompting the association’s decisive move.

Varun Kumar Singh, the state president of the association, claimed to have communicated the impending protest to all district magistrates in Bihar through a letter. The strike, as outlined in the association’s previously declared program, will persist until their demands are met.

The organization, representing a substantial workforce in the state, threatens to initiate a strike if their call for equal compensation is not addressed promptly.

During a press conference held in Patna, the union’s spokesperson articulated the demand, emphasizing the stark contrast in honorarium between Bihar and Gujarat for comparable roles. Although specific details regarding affected industries and the number of workers involved were not disclosed, the union underscored the essential contributions of Bihar’s workforce to the state’s economy.

While the labor union expressed willingness to engage in negotiations, they underscored the urgency for swift action to avert the disruptions associated with a large-scale strike. Sources claimed that discussions are expected between state authorities and representatives of the labor organization in the coming days to address concerns and seek a resolution that satisfies both parties.
